"One thousand heroes donate blood for peace"
Aiming to support the blood banks from the Department of Valle del Cauca in Colombia, Agents of Peace volunteers had a goal to bring a minimum of one thousand people to the Palmyra Park to donate blood.
In order to fulfill this purpose, volunteers visited universities, colleges and institutions raising awareness and enrolling approximately 450 people before the event. People arrived from cities like Cali, El Cerrito, Santa Helena, Pradera and Armenia.
The Red Cross expressed the following words of gratitude: "We were not expecting that many people to arrive. We knew that the Agents of Peace were doing a great job, but today we could see the magnitude of the task they have undertaken, so much that we ran out of human resources to meet this many people. Congratulations to all the Agents of Peace," said Diana Diaz, the Coordinator of Red Cross, Cali-Valley.
This magnificent event held on Mach 1, 2008 was made possible with the support of the Mayor of the City of Palmira, the Secretary of Government, Colonel Mauricio Peña from the Battalion of Engineers No. 3 ‘Colonel Agustín Codazzi’ along with the Red Cross, Damas Grises and the INFA Institute. Since 7:30 a.m. people began to arrive at the location, ready to donate blood and register as Agents of Peace.
