The AGENTS OF PEACE Reforest Guatemala
On July 17, 2007 the AGENTS OF PEACE were gathered to reforest the municipality of Camotán, Department of Chiquimula, Guatemala. This important act promotes peace in the population and its future generations.
The event was carried out by AMISRAEL – The Messenger of Peace with the support of different entities like “Reverdecer Guatemala” (Reforest Guatemala), who donated 1,175 trees.
“ACODERCA,” the association coordinating the development of Camotán provided technical assistance and evaluated the ground. The Agroforestry Office of the Municipal of Camotán prepared the ground to plant the trees.
In addition to the AGENTS OF PEACE, those reforesting the area were: “Las Crucitas,” Escuela Normal Bilingüe Intercultural (ENBI), Colegio Fe y Alegría, Instituto “Rafael Iriarte,”and Miss Ecology of Chiquimula, Jessica Rivas.
Jessica Rivas stated: “I am very happy to be of help in this type of activities. I want to urge all the young people, whom are the future of our country, that we plant trees, and do not contaminate rivers or litter the streets, because on us depends a better environment filled with peace. May God bless you and thank you.”
Mr. Walter Agustín, an agroforestry technician from the office of Agroforestry of the municipality of Camotán, Chiquimula, said: “The trees are practically the lungs of the earth, they give us oxygen to breathe and they give us food and beauty; something very important, trees transmit Peace; if we sit by a tree, its peace is transmitted to us and that is something important, nature always reflects peace and we are very happy to have you here this morning with us. Whenever we have the opportunity to plant a tree we should pant it, and think that when we plant a tree we are planting peace, we are planting wellbeing and development. Therefore, on behalf of the Municipality of Camotán, we thank you and we thank all the institutions that work in favor of the development of the environment. I would like to tell you that the municipality of Camotán offers you support for events you wish to undertake, we are at your service to work together with you.”
