Remembering a tragedy, so that it is not repeated

Colombia joined the countries that remembered the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, solemnly at the sound of the national anthem, in the Congress of the Republic, in memory of the victims of the attacks that took place six years ago in New York.

The September 11th solemnity was observed in the Elíptico Hall of the National Capitol. Not only were the 19 Colombian victims who died in the Twin Towers remembered, but all victims of terrorist attacks from all the world.

Dr. Alberto Gordon May, House Representative of the Department of San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina, who registered as an AGENT OF PEACE, coordinated together with AMISRAEL the memorial that took place at 4:00 p.m. in this democratic House.

“Many times, a single act is not understood; repetition is a way to better understand.  Let’s say: ‘No more’ to so many crimes; and an action like today’s is a way to say: ‘We do not want more violence; we do not want this to happen again.’ Let’s seek peace,” said Dr. Gordon.

Also present at the solemnity were ambassadors and diplomats of countries whom, like Colombia, had fallen compatriots in New York.

“To pay homage to the victims of this immense tragedy, I think is very significant to participate in these types of solemnities in which our solidarity to fight against this tragedy is confirmed,” said the Advisor of the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Hiroyuki Makiuchi.

During the ceremony, Dr. Oscar Arboleda Palacio, the President of the House of Representatives, gave Dr. Iván Sarmiento, AMISRAEL’S Delegate to Colombia a scroll as a gesture of this commemorative act in the country, which came to an end subsequent to the reading of the commemorative statements and an offering of flowers in the form of a dove, symbol of the AGENTS OF PEACE, given to the ambassadors and diplomats of Chile, Argentina, Japan and Ecuador, by children dressed in white, symbol of peace.
