During the course of the event the climax was reached when white roses were laid at the foot of the oil-painting created by the Panamanian, Augusto Garcés, Professor of Plastic Arts, which symbolizes the unity among Panama and the United States for historic reasons.
The honorable deputies of the National Assembly together with members of the diplomatic body in Panama, AMISRAEL’S volunteers, and all peacemakers demonstrated their solidarity participating in the floral offering.
As part of the informational materials provided by AMISRAEL, there was a brief documentary of the tragic events of that day which was projected in various countries’ Assemblies.
Mrs. Diana Mena, the mother of the only Panamanian killed on the so-called “Black Tuesday,” also participated in the memorial.
For the first time in six years the Panamanians were able to hear the live voices crying out in pain, and the message of reflection that Mrs. Mena delivered to the attendees and televiewers.
Deputy Agustín Escudé |
A one-minute silence was held in memory of the victims of the New York occurrence. This act was preceded by the ringing of a bell and the sound of a trumpet by representatives of Panama’s Firefighters Corp., whom expressed their commitment and total support for any attempt against the human lives.
In representation of the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Agustín Escudé finalized the activity with a clear and concise message that the Panamanian population, represented in the National Assembly, desires peace, that every person should seek peace, and that the only way to obtain it is to work united and with love.
