Drawing for Peace
On March 28, 2008, AMISRAEL- The Messenger of Peace, the Embassy of Israel and the Shalom Association conducted the closure of the drawing contest: “Drawing for Peace.” This was done in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the State of Israel and the 60 years of friendship between Israel and El Salvador. The event took place at the facilities of the Academic and Cultural Center (FEPADE).
Approximately 400 children from different schools of the country participated in the contest. The purpose of the contest was to promote the artistic abilities of the boys and girls ages 7 to 15, and to raise awareness among children of the importance to recognize actions that contribute to peace and share their vision of what peace in this world means to them.
Different personalities were present like the Minister of Foreign Relations, Marisol Argueta de Barrillas; the Minister of Education, Darling Xiomara Meza; Israel’s Ambassador to El Salvador, Mr. Mattanya Cohen; the Commander of El Salvador’s Air Force, Rabbi Pablo Berman; the principals of the participating schools and Atilio Munguia and Joalgar, the Artists in charge of the contest.
Mr. Federico Hernandez, President of CONCULTURA was in charge of the evaluation. Andrea Pilar Aragon, a 13 year old was the first place winner. Despite her physical disabilities, she painted with her feet and shoulders, translating her work in a message of peace, reflection and love, giving a lesson to people that despite difficulties, we can be part of the construction of peace.
At the end of the event the winners received painting kits, chalkboards and cash prizes, they also registered as Agents of Peace and were able to place their hands in the mural “Hands that Paint the Peace.”
