Walk for Peace in Paraguay
AMISRAEL, the Israeli consulate and Jewish organizations celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Israel’s creation.
In commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Israel’s creation, a walk for peace took place from Las Residentas monument to the ÑuGuazú Park, on Sunday, August 17.
During this important event, children in traditional clothing from around the world, with encouraging messages displayed in banners, danced for peace. Singer Andrea Valobra sang in Hebrew contaging the walkers with joy and music.
The Honorary Counsel of Israel to Paraguay, Max Haber gave a historic outline of the sixty years of the promulgation of the United Nations Resolution 181, recommending the partition of Palestine into an Arab state and a Jewish state.
On the other hand, he thanked AMISRAEL for “Preparing this event to congregate all of us here, the Jewish community and important authorities of the Republic of Paraguay."
Dr. William Soto, International Director of AMISRAEL and world pacifist, during his speech emphasized: "For thousands of years the people of Israel have been in the Diaspora, without losing the hope of returning to the land of their ancestors, the land which flows milk and honey.” And he added that 1948 when Israel was declared a State, Paraguay had a fundamental role on November 29, 1947, with its vote in favor of the United Nations Resolution.
He finalized with the following words: “May the word Shalom soon be a daily and constant reality in Israel and in every corner of the planet earth.” AMISRAEL HAI!
The speech of Vice President Frederico Franco was highlighted by the following words: “Today, Sunday, August 17, we come to testify on behalf of President Lugo, our commitment to work for Peace, to pray so that soon, in the Middle East, Israel and Palestine have a state of Peace, the peace that the world desires so much, and Paraguay, undoubtedly, will seek that Peace".
Then Dr. William Soto, Vice President Franco and Honorary Consul Max Haber proceeded to plant a tree in AMISRAEL’S forest. For the Jews is a symbol of resurgence. When the Jews from around the world began to return to the land of Israel they found it desolate and abandoned, the challenge was to “conquer the desolation" and as part of that symbolism, a tree is planted when the Jews celebrate a special occasion.
Sixty white balloons were released into the air symbolizing sixty years of challenges and achievements of Israel. Subsequent to this, the event concluded dancing to the rhythm of Hebrew melodies wherein authorities like the Vice President of the Republic and his wife, Deputy Emilia Alfaro de Franco, participated.
The event was organized by AMISRAEL with the support of the Shalom Association, the Consulate of Israel, B" Nai B Rith, the Paraguayan Israeli Cultural Institute and the Cultural Society Friends of Israel.
