A week for peace in Santander, Colombia
AMISRAEL – The Messenger of Peace – joined the program of the WEEK FOR PEACE AND HUMAN RIGHTS, under the motto: “Justice and Dignity for all”, in the state of Santander, Colombia. This initiative had the support of the Government, Human Rights Commission and representatives of the city of Bucaramanga, among other institutions, and took place from September8th to 13th, 2008, a special year for the 60th anniversary of the International Declaration of Human Rights.
In a press conference, Dr. Luis Fernando Cote Penha, the governor’s delegate, along with Dr. Ana Felícia Barajas, Human Rights Commissioner and Dr. Roberto Desogus, High Commissioner of the UN for Human Rights and other member of the organizing committee initiated the event.
During the long walk down Avenue 27, one of the main streets of Bucaramanga, the presence of several educational institutions linked to the AGENTS OF PEACE Campaign stood out. In addition, many important forums with special guest were carried out in different cities, to discuss themes concerning Human Rights.
A very showy event was organized by the National Penitentiary Institute (Incep) which took place in the model penitentiary of Bucaramanga. The inmates had the opportunity to express themselves through art, using colorful block, and working on the human rights thematic.
On Friday the 12th, four different towns carried out simultaneous activities, closing the program of the Week for Peace and Human Rights. The event in the city of Flora Blanca was conducted by AMISRAEL with the motto: “Young Agents of Peace”. The deans, professors, students and also the chairman of the Community Action Group of the neighborhoods were special guest of this event, as well as the community in general.
During this act, children and youths contributed in a very unique way with their ideas and made know their work as agents of peace in the metropolitan area, showing that with the gathering of several small efforts, it’s possible to achieve great results.
