AMISRAEL carried out the second blood donation campaign in Venezuela
Donating blood is “an act f solidarity, altruism and responsibility”. This was the concept behind the second voluntary blood donation campaign carried out by AMISRAEL and the agents of peace in many different cities in Venezuela.

The first campaign was carried out on September, 12th, in Cumaná, the capital of the state of Sucre, with the support of the Antonio Patrício de Alcalá Hospital Blood Bank. Great enthusiasm could be seen all day on the faces of the more than 100 people who came voluntarily to give their blood. Each one donated a pint of blood, which could save up to three lives each.
“It’s a joyfull day because we have the opportunity to get a lot of new blood from such great people, thanks to the collaboration of hte agents of peace who had the initiative of putting together this event” said Dr. Maria Cristina Escarra, director of the Blood Bank unit.
The activities continued in the city of Barquisimeto, in the state of Lara, at the Antonio María Pineda Central Hospital, where more than 250 volunteer gathered since early morning, aiming to help others in risk situation.
“I saw the campaign there and I thought it was a good idea to collaborate. It’s the first time I ever donate blood and I feel good because I’m helping to save a life” were the words of Simadeley Rivero, who not only donated his blood freely that day, but also committed himself to do so on regular basis from now on.
The last activity took place on September 19th, in Victória, Aragua state and, among cultural dances and artistic performances, people spent a day with solidarity as the guest of honor. More than 100 people participated donating their blood.

The activities were possible thanks to the help of the Fire Brigade, the Red Cross, the Civil Guard, the State and Local Police, the Culture Department and many other institutions who worked hard for spreading a culture of peace through the support and sponsoring of solidarity actions.
IMPORTANT DATA
* Blood cannot be manufactures and is irreplaceable in the treatment of several illnesses
* In the event f a car accident, up to 30 donations might be necessary
* In a surgical intervention, up to 20 donations might be necessary
* According to the Pan-American Health Association, 8 in each 10 people will need a transfusion some time in their life
*Each donation can save up to three lives.
WHO CAN DONATE BLOOD?
The pre requisites are few and easy to attend:
• Be between 18 and 60 years old
• Good overall health conditions
• Weigh more than 50 kilos
• Be well fed
• Have a valid ID card
