More than 400 youngsters of eleven provinces from all the corners of the country (from Salta to Tierra del Fuego, from the east to west) were united with the commitment to learn and spread the possibility of solving conflicts through dialog. “Fair and non-violent solutions in order to reach peace” was this year`s motto.

On Friday the 19th, many youngsters who participated in the event took over the role of ambassadors of peace and turned into senators for a day. They voted and signed a manifesto called “Youth, justice and peace”, finalizing their journey on that day. The AMISRAEL representative was Julio A. Olivera.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

On Sunday, 21st of September, the International Day of Peace was celebrated at the United Nations Square (Plaza de las Naciones Unidas). This event was carried out by the Peace Counsel Committee (Comissão Conselho da Paz) of the Argentinean Chancellery, of which AMISRAEL is a member, and the MRECIC (Ministry of International Relations and Commerce).

Many children agents of peace handed out white flags to the audience while many singers and dance groups entertained the with their talent as a symbol of joy and integration. Hundreds of canvases with drawing regarding peace made by the children were sewn together, making a 400 meters flag. It was thus shown the bringing together will and strength, the peace we all long for can be built.

Religious leaders also took part in the act and, in spite the cultural and religious differences, representatives from the Jewish, the Islamic and the Christian communities, called a halt in their activities, forgot their differences and gathered around an important common goal: Peace. This was the ultimate demonstration that, regardless their condition, the human being seeks to live in a world of union, respect and peace.

At noon, people observed a minute of silence to later give the peace flags to the embassadors. An autochthonous tree was planted in the United Nations Square (Plaza de las Naciones Unidas) in order to close the event.
