International Day of Peace Celebration in Ecuador
The National Congress in Ecuador was the star witness of the International Day of Peace commemoration, celebrated worldwide on September 21st, 2008. Approximately 2.000 people took part in the event, among which the group of agents of peace, wearing white t-shirts, stood out.
AMISRAEL Ecuador and its volunteers, the Universal Peace Federation (Federação pela Paz Universal - FPU) and UM delegates, among other political and religious authorities, gathered to celebrate the day. After singing the National Anthem, they made a moment of silence for the victims of violence and wars around the world.
In the next act, religious, political and cultural leaders, of different affiliations, said a prayer asking for world peace. As a concrete demonstration of the longing for peace and safety, the people in the audience waved white scarves, to the sound of the song “Solo Paz”.
After the reading of the UN announcement to celebrate the date, the voices gathered in unison to sing along with the song “Agents of Peace”, letting show their deep emotion.
The day went by among words, songs and poems. Hearts open for peace united in a great hug among people of different ideological tendencies who manifested their wish to live in a better world, a world where the guest of honor would be PEACE.
