MEXICO: thousands of people marched for peace
On Sunday the 21st of September, 2008, International Peace Day, AMISRAEL called upon all Mexicans to join a peace march, with the Motto “Mexico en Marcha”. The objective was to raise the awareness for union, tolerance and harmony among the individual, regardless of their ideology, beliefs and education.
Over 10.500 people, from Civil Associations and the society in general, paraded the main streets of Villahermosa, Tabasco, until the Government Palace where they were greeted by the Governor himself. The march started at the Manuel Mestre Park and ended at the Plaza das Armas.
The March was led by AMISRAEL’s International Director, Mr. William Sotto, His Excellency the Ambassador of Israel Yosef Livné and AMISRAEL’S delegate in Mexico, Mr. Benjamin Cruz Alfaro.
During the initial greetings, the Governor of Tabasco, Mr. Andrés R. Granier Melo, called the people to join forces in favor of peace. “Today we ask for peace in the world, and in Israel, but above all for the Peace in Mexico and in Tabasco” he stated.
Dr. William Sotto highlighted the strength of the people from Tabasco who overcame the natural disasters and showed his trust that, with the same kind of united effort, they can achieve.

As a symbol of their desire for unification, white doves were released at the same time as thousands of white globes.
“MEXICO EN MARCHA” was carried out in different cities, among which: Villahermosa, Tabasco y Monterrey, Nuevo León.
In the city of Monterrey Nuevo León, the peace demonstrators were received by Mr. Claudio Ramírez Martínez, representing the State Government of Nuevo León, Mr. José Natividad González Paras, Mr. Rabin Moisés Kaiman, spiritual leader of the Israelí community, Mr. Mohammed Imqilqane, representing the Islamic community, Mr. Jerry Báez Conferencist, Nelia Adriana Guerra Adame, a student of the Universidad Interamericana del Norte, Caleb Yoezer Soto Carrera, student of the Secundaria. Además of the Danza Temachtiani group and the children’s choir “Peaceful little hands” or Manitas de Paz.
The celebration started at the “plaza del Colegio Civil” all the way to Alameda Mariano Escobedo. The parade had chants, folk dances, peace messages and a solemn act. Candles were lit to pay homage to those who had been victimized by violence and people placed peace messages for the State of Nuevo Leon in an urn. The event was witnessed by approximately 2.000 people. AMISRAEL in Mexico, S.C. and the Agents of Peace made this event as a manifestation to promote a culture of peace.
Musical Concert for PEACE
The great concert was the final closing event of the celebrations of the International Peace Day. The TV showman Jorge de Dios announced the band which was received with excitement by the audience.
The musicians and singer from diferent countries resulted in a Venezuelan-Mexican blend, conducted by Maestro Argenis Guzmán who opened the concert with the song “Sembrando Vida” (music and lyrics by Pablo Morales). Afterwards, popular song by Didd Eris, Candy y Rosita Quiroz entertained the audience.
For two hours the audience sang along, enjoying the concert.
The event was closed with folk music, to which everybody danced.
