Nicaragua also “walked the land”

On Sunday Morning, 21st of September, AMISRAEL, the messenger of peace, the Jewish Community, the Institute of Israeli Culture, the Israeli Consulate in Nicaragua, the Israeli Embassy in Costa Rica and the Government of Nicaragua represented by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, among other organizations and hundreds of people gathered in an important march to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the state of Israel.

The event took place at the “Parque de la Paz”, where in 1990 the weapons from Nicaragua’s civil war were buried. Over a 1000 people got together to participate in the march.

The official opening act was a prayer for peace, said by Mr. Carlos Pérez, in charge of the religious affairs of the Jewish Community, who addresses the audience saying: “…when the Jewish people marched on behalf of the black population of the United States in their plea for equality…. Among them there was a famous rabbi, who was asked how he felt about it. “I feel that this morning my feet pray (…) we prayed a little as we walked; walking, each step we took was a prayer for peace, for around the world, in Israel, in this region and in our hearts…. If there isn’t peace in our hearts, there can’t be peace anywhere.”

In her turn, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs. Juana Argeñal stated: “Talking about Peace is fighting for it, it’s saying NO to all adverse circumstances and saying YES to the construction and practice of love. And we assure our brothers at AMISRAEL, our brothers in the Jewish Community and around the world that we are building those roads. Thank you all for the opportunity to establish this commitment and move on to really express Dr. William Soto’s thoughts: “Peace is fruit of justice, not only a wish, but a necessity, peace for the Middle East, peace for Nicaragua and for the world… Shalom!"

Sr. Carlos Pérez (officer in charge of the religious affairs of the Jewish community)

Nicaragua dedicated this International Day of Peace to express its solidarity and love to the State of Israel, which completes 60 years of renaissance, wishing them the peace they lack and we all desire.

The close the act, the local authorities and the Jewish Community released white doves and imprinted their hands in a mural called “World Peace is in our Hands”, at the bottom of the lighthouse at the “Parque de la Paz”.
