Colombia Celebrated the “Culture of Peace Day”

The main square at Villavincencio, the city where Venezuela’s eastern plateau begins, was the place chosen to celebrate the “Culture of Peace Day”, an event devised by the AGENTS OF PEACE, unforeseen in the region, which lasted for 13 non stop hours. There were musicians, models, actors, journalists, entrepreneurs, civil servants and the whole community, many of whom donated their blood to the blood bank of the Red Cross.

During the three weeks prior to the event, the agents of peace in Villevicencio, along with ASOPEMET, the journalists association in Meta, developed a promotional campaign which was widely supported by the regional radio and TV networks such as Noticiero del Llano, RPM Voz de los Centauros, Caracol en Línea, Notidiario Caracol, Noticias Súper, Radio Sucesos RCN, Antena 2, El Kanal and Radio Olímpica. These networks also gave the events full live press coverage, including an article in the Llano 7 Días newspaper.

Many presentations took place such as folk dances and autochthone music, reggae, rock, salsa and vallenato. There was also a fashion parade and a play, presented by the AGENTS OF PEACE. The local journalists were hosting the event.

However, the most outstanding aspect of this day was solidarity, was to see people helping one another. Such an event was only possible with the help of public and private enterprises as EMSA, Bavaria, Bodega Aipore, tipografía Naranja, Consuerte, Alpina y Postobón; Comercial de Oriente, la Empresa de Acueducto, Bioagrícola, Cinemultiplex Villacentro, Agua del Nacimiento, Surtitodo del Llano, Cruz Roja Seccional Meta, ASOPEMET, Local Police, National Army and the Traffic Secretary.

Approximatly 400 people volunteered to donate blood and the Red Cross gathered a wide data bank for future emergency scenarios.

Around 500 new AGENTS OF PEACE joined in, committing themselves to work for peace in the beautiful Colombia.
