AMISRAEL Receives Jerusalem Prize 2008

In the midst of a celebration, on Monday the 24th of November, at the B’nei B’rith Halls in Santiago de Chile, the World Zionist Federation, represented by their local branch, awarded AMISRAEL – The Messenger of Peace with the “Jerusalem Prize 2008”

The “Jerusalem Prize 2008” was created by the World Zionist Federation and is awarded every year by their local branches to people or institutions which stand out for its support to the state of Israel and which work for freedom in our society, be it in the cultural, political, economical, scientific or humanitarian scopes. This recognition has been given to presidents, senators, and literary or artistic personalities, of several countries, for over thirty year. Among the awardees, some important names can be highlighted, such as the writers Bertrand Russell, Arthur Miller and Mario Vargas Llosa; the singer Mercedes Sosa; the former first Lady of Chile, Luisa Durán de Lagos and to the Presidents of Uruguay and United States, José Maria Sanguinetti and Bill Clinton, respectively.

This year, the prize was awarded to the NGO AMISRAEL – The Messenger of Peace, which is formed by several individuals who work to spread an ethics of responsibility based on a culture of peace throughout society, in order to achieve as its final goal, world peace.

The Ambassador of Israel and the President of the Zionist Federation in Chile, David Cohen and Marcos Bronfman, expressed their appreciation to AMISRAEL with touching speeches and highlighted the actions carried out by this institution, through its support to the state of Israel and its struggle to spread peace worldwide. A support message from the president of Karen Kayamet Leisrael in Chile, Mr. Roberto Muñoz, was also read during the event.

Dr. William Soto Santiago, International Director of AMISRAEL, also expressed his appreciation for receiving the prize, and renewed his personal commitment and that of the institution to continue working to establish a culture of peace within the state of Israel.
