National Encounter of New Mayors

Brasilia, February 10th, 2009

The Minister of Institutional Relations, José Múcio Monteiro, said about the National Encounter of New Mayors that “…there is no doubt that this is the greatest political event in the history of our country”. His assertation was due to the massive representation of the three powers of the Brazilian Nation (executive, legislative and judiciary) in all instances (federal, state and municipal).

AMISRAEL was represented by its directors, Salomão Cunha and Kelita Machado, because they believe the union of efforts towards achieving a sustainable development and equal opportunities for socio-economical growth is not an exclusive task of the government. It’s indispensable that the third sector and society as a hole undertake their share of responsibility in this process.

At the end of opening solemnity of the event, a document by AMISRAEL, about the brazilian external policies was handed personally to President Da Silva.

President Lula, the host of the event, pointed out the participation of women in the political scene, once they represent 9,5% of all the municipal governances in the country.  During the event, gender equality was highlighted.

Everybody’s goal, in the words of the Minister Mucio is “to make this a great nation.”
