The Hillel Foundation for Jewish Campus Life provides opportunities for Jewish students at colleges and universities to explore and celebrate their Jewish identity. Just in North America there are more than 20 centers. Dawgs for Israel is a student-led organization working toward strengthening support for Israel on campus. Their work is accomplished through education, advocacy, and engagement in all aspects of Israeli society, both politically and culturally.
This year, Amisrael joined these two institutions in order to celebrate the 61 years of Israel’s independence, in the last April 29th.
The Tate Center, at the heart of the University of Georgia, in Athens, was the scenario chosen for the event, where teacher, students and the general public enjoy Hebrew music and gastronomy.
The activity aimed at teaching the general public about the arts, the cultural richness and the traditions of this nation, renowned Worldwide for its ancient history and technological development.
The dance group Lehaket Amisrael took part in the event, performing some folkloric dances such as: Nigun Atik, Mayim and Evenu Shalom Alehem.
The ties that unite the US and Israel go way beyond the political and diplomatic field. The United States was the first country to recognize Israel as a State, back in 1948, only eleven minutes after its declaration of independence. Nowadays, the Jewish population of the US is approximately of 5 million Jews.
