Peru demonstrates in favor of Human Rights

More than one hundred Peruvian citizens, members of various institutions, demonstrated outside the Brazilian Embassy in Lima, Peru, during an activity that aimed to peacefully protest against the presence of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Latin America. The president, who arrived in Brasilia on Monday for an official visit, is known for his controversial opinions, human rights violations and for a disputed nuclear program, which the people from Peru do not endorse.

The demonstrators delivered a letter to the Brazilian ambassador in Lima, Jorge D'Escragnolle, which expresses the "concern for the visit and for the bonds and agreements arising from it," especially concerning the nuclear issue. The concerns are aimed at the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, who invited Ahmadinejad for such visit.

The development of atomic bombs by the government of Iran who "threatens to eliminate Israel is a concern not only the Jewish people, but concerns the whole world. Therefore the global concern for the development of atomic weapons by the government Iran is justified" says the letter mentioned.

"Religious intolerance, lack of freedom of press and thought and the mistreatment of women are examples of arbitrariness, fanaticism and extremism of the Iranian government, represented by Mr. Ahmadinejad, who oppresses his people and all those who do not share his fundamentalist beliefs”.

"Brazil love peace, not Iran's nuclear weapons" and “Stop the advancement of the terror ideology in Latin America", were some of the signs that demonstrators carried in front of the Brazilian embassy.

The letter was delivered to the Brazilian ambassador in Lima by the president of the Jewish Association of Peru, Mr. Daniel Schydlowsky, who urged the Democratic governments in Latin America "to close ranks against intolerance Ahmadinejad preaches”.
