I am Earth! Was the cry heard in Tijuana
On April 19, 2008 the Paipai indigenous community of Santa Catarina of the municipality of Ensenada along with the indigenous community of Kumyay Tecate of Baja California Norte in Mexico celebrated World Earth Day.
AMISRAEL and other civic groups from the city of Tijuana were united to seek and reflect on the care of earth. The theme throughout the celebration was "I am Earth!”
The purpose of this celebration was to thank Mother Earth for the benefits it provides to mankind. The march began with the Aztec ritual by greeting the four winds, and seeking permission from the four cardinal points, the Sun and Earth to start the march. Also, protection was pleaded in their journey from the dividing line between Mexico and USA until reaching the Governmental Palace of Tijuana.
Throughout the march, songs, prayers and offerings to Nature were presented. Local authorities gave parakeets, also known as 'lovebirds' to a child, a youngster and an adult, representing society as a whole, delivering a message of hope and freedom to nature and the environment.
AMISRAEL – The Messenger of Peace with a group of Agents of Peace volunteers participated in the celebration raising awareness that in order for the human being to be in peace they need to be in peace with the environment, caring for and preserving the natural resources. The contribution of indigenous groups was highlighted as the most diligent caretakers of the environment.
