The Agents of Peace Give a Hand to the People Affected by the Floods in Colombia
Colombia is facing since mid September, the second period of rain ithis year, which already has caused at least 44 deaths, 13 missing people and more than 558,000 people affected.
THE rains do not cease and the number of people affected in Colombia is growing, as well as the level of rivers and landslides in many areas of the country. The Office of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) warned in a report to the National System of Prevention and Treatment of Disasters that the current the rain season "becomes more critical because of the volume of rain which fell in the country in recent days".
In Cartago, Valle, a village located in the southwest of Colombia, a team of volunteers from the Agents of Peace offered help to more than five thousand people affected in this part of the country, which were trying to save their belongings in the midst of the waters.
"The rain on the Central and Eastern Ridges will descend toward the mid and lower valleys of the Magdalena and Cauca rivers", stressed the IDEAM, for the newspaper El Tiempo.
Although the rain may start to decline in the country, "the rivers are yet to increase their flow of water, due to the water coming from the river source", according to the Max Enríquez, a Colombian expert in meteorology. This situations calls for keeping the alert levels and it is therefore recommended that people carry on with the preventive measures. AMISRAEL in Colombia calls on all the agents of peace to continue working to support the different groups of prevention of disasters.
